“The benefits associated with the globalization of the food industry far outweigh the detrimental effects”. Discuss this statement with reference to one ‘developed’ and one ‘developing’ country that you have read about.
Globalization is a word that has been used by many people and researchers in different causes such as economy ,culture and politics. There are a lot of definitions have been written to describe this word. In addition, most of these definitions describe globalization as a good system that has changed forever the way people contact each other .According to the (Friedman, 2002).Said, I define globalization as the integration of markets, transportation systems, and communication systems to a degree never witnessed before. That means all these series of factors led to define globalization .In contrast, it is difficult to contain all things can we get from globalization because of the various of products .Many people in all the world can take benefits from it because of the communication between countries even they poor countries or developing countries . Nowadays, it is obvious that , rich country or developed countries can take these benefits of globalization .For example, improve their economy by spreading a big restaurants around the world .Also, they have benefits from their medical businesses .On the other hand, that does not mean poor countries don not have the some of these benefits such as the benefit that they have from communications between countries around all the world.
Actually, rich and developed countries have more benefits of globalization, but there are some advantages that poor countries can have. As we know, we define globalization as a word that describes the disappearance of limitations between countries and being one, help each other, and communicating together for development. By communication, these benefits will be increased by increasing the strength of relationships between countries around the world . This helps poor countries to go forward to reach their aims and goals by the cultural and economical exchanges which was the key rule for this huge development in technology, connection, or society (Kennedy, 2001). An example of this is India which takes advantages from cell phone revolution to support their economy (Tharoor, 2007). Now, we could say that poor countries will have advantages from globalization even if the benefits come from connecting and dealing with rich countries.
Medical systems have a key role in the developing countries. These medical systems include the health-care and medicine businesses. Because of globalization, the profit of medical systems will grow internationally. In other word, Many countries are spending a lot of money for outside health-care. An example of this is the UAE which spends more than 2 billion$ every year for abroad health-care ( Ezz Al Deen, (BBC NEWS - One Minute World News, 2008). That means medical tourism gives a lot of advantages for the country that is developed in medical health-care. Additionally, if we talked about medical systems we have to consider the profit of medical businesses. Clearly , there has been a revolution in selling medicines as a result of the large number of the diseases in these days. Consequently, it has been very easy for the rich countries that have developed medical businesses to take advantages from this revolution and earn a lot of money that will assist in improving these countries.
Nowadays, there is a big spread of some restaurants that belong to massy or developed countries such as McDonalds or KFC. “Internationalization of food” (Scholte, 2000) is a word that describes the spreading of these restaurants as one of globalization’s feather. Developed and rich countries are aware of the big benefits they will have because of globalization. In fact, we are facing a huge change in the habit of traditional food these days.(S. Peters & T. Peters) “the dominance of western fast food” . Globalization is the reason for this change, and because of it many traditional food were influenced by new or western food. For this reason, rich countries which have big restaurants use this change and influence for their profit and to improve their economy. For instant, where ever you go, you can see the famous restaurant “McDonalds” in many countries. Joo Sam Lee from Korea said “ several years ago, I went to Japan. At that time, it wasn’t difficult to find American restaurants there…”. Food businesses can be significant reason for improving countries’ economies.
In conclusion, I would say that spreading things around the world for benefits is one of globalization’s definitions. Many people believe that the benefits of globalization are useful for rich countries only such as the benefits that come from food or medical businesses. In contrast, this is not true, because globalization’s benefits can be helpful for every one even if they are poor or rich because of the interactive communication between countries. In my opinion, we have to try to have a global and developed society by globalization .If all countries work together, they will get benefits from globalization and their country will be improvement.
