first draft essay3

While most people agree that environmental issues are a major concern, there are different views about who is responsible for and what can be done about the damage to the environment. Use the following guides and the articles provided to write an essay in which you define what is meant by ‘ecological footprints’, show how people differ in their assessment of what can be done about environmental problems and describe what people are actually doing

When we think about ecology, the first thing we consider about it is people. People consume more than what they actually need. Nowadays, The ecology is one of the most important part of life and it studies life whatever the details. For example ,how do people, animals and plants affect each other with their environment? Also, the ecology constitutes the main thing to sustaining our life, such as food and different relationships in the habitat. The major points that I will discuss about are firstly, what do ecological footprints mean. Secondly, how people judge and think about environmental problems. Thirdly, I will discuss the acts of people in their environment and what they are actually doing in their real environment. Before we discuss about these points I will explain what ecological footprint mean. According to (Schaller, 2001), footprint means the amount of productive land and water needed to support the production of resources we consume and to absorb the wastes we create can be considered our ecological footprint. This means that all resources when we consume or use lead to make ecological footprints .another definition of ecological footprint from website, “The ecological footprint define as a resource accounting tool that helps countries understand their ecological balance sheet and gives them the data necessary to manage their resources and secure their future”
that means it is very significant because it makes our life easier and reaches us to high standard life.

There are many people believe the developed countries are most responsible for the environment footprint.; on the other hand, some authors consider the poorer countries or developing countries to be cause of what happens in the environment. As we live, many people consume a lot of resources to keep going in their lifestyle whether they come from developed countries or developing countries. Research has shown that People in America and other developed nations have much larger impact on the environment than people in developing nations such as India (Schaller, 2001).on the other word, the number of the factors and smoke car increase in the rich countries so that will contribute to affect on the environment or nature. in fact, when the developed counties such as (western Europe, Canada and Japan) consume many resources more than what they require that thing. As the result, the waste or crap in these countries becomes more than in poorer nations. According to (Schaller, 2001), The average North American lifestyle requires almost 10 acres of ecologically productive lands to supply its resources and absorb its wastes. That means, the ecological demand large land to put their craps and it is a huge rubbish which may affect seriously on the environment. In addition, the population in American is 5% but the Americans consume 20% to 40% recourses(Huber, 2001).they use too much resources so they are polluted their environment ;however, another writer believe that the main factor which affects on the environment is poorer nation. It is obvious that rich country is affected on the environment whereas the poorer country has the same effection. In the developing area of the world, the people use resources as much as they have .moreover, they consume little while they are destructive and wasteful. According to (Huber, 2001)says ,poor nation produce more pollution and use up more land. That happens in this nation because they a lack of the protection place to reduce the pollution. The developing countries depend on the wood as main fire while this wood has enormous impact on the nature and led to make bad habitat.

Our environment worldwide is being damaged every day so that gets problems to the environment. There are many bad of actions people have done that has huge destruction on the environment. For example, pollution and acid rain. As we know ,the most consumptive in the world is human .As a result, that means too much rubbish absolutely will affect on the nature . According to (Young People's Trust for the Environment), each household in Britain produce 1 tons of rubbish every day. Therefore, most of these craps is taken away by buried and this can be dangerous for the natural environment .in addition, the people from different country think about this problem and try to solve by recycling the rubbish to use it again. Recently, I did the survey that the students at zayed university ,I found many students prefer recycle than brined the rubbish at (18,2 students respectively) because they think the recycle reduce our rubbish and gets benefits from it by made up a new large resources after we will not use it again. Also, the people usually increase the amount of pollution when the use car. In my own experience, the developed country has more than three private cars in the one house so that mean the surrounding of this house or the area will be more polluted and spread unclear air. people should use 1 car instead of 3 cars because the people will be more healthy without illnesses and smoke ;on the other hand, the people have to use public transport either walk in the short place to conserve the environment(8,8 students in order).that means they try to use transport has few impact on the environment. However, when people affect on the environment they also impact on the animals such as extinction of thousands of species animals.Accoding to (“Endangeredspecie.com: Endangered Species Profile”) ,The blue whale is classified as an endangered species due to a reduction of at least 50% of the blue whale population over the last three generations. On the other word, there are dramatically decrease in the number of blue whale. Reaction of people about what are they actually doing become dangerous because they hurt themselves firstly, by getting illness then animals suffer from it Intel they become extinct .

In conclusion, the environment is important place where everyone live on it. There are many problems in the environment are affected by people. The points that have been raised show that the means of the ecological footprint, how people are differed in their judgment and what are they doing actually in their environment. In my opinion, people should protect their environment and use the main resources in correct way without polluted the environment. If all people work together keeping their surrounding ,all problems are related to the environment will disappear.

gragh about survey

The graphs display the number of people particularly students at Zayed University on Tuesday 28th of May who are contribute to keep their environment in different methods.

In general , the highest proportion of students who think recycle is very important and useful are 18 people while the lowest number of students who think there is no responsibility for individual people to 0%. It is obvious that the diagrams are divided to the ten questions .

There are big difference between the people who said the most pollution locate in the urban residential to 18 students while the villages to the 2 students. The students believe the noise is some sort of pollution but less than half said is not sort of pollution and other things are important which led to the exit the pollution such as cars are main source of noise reached to 10students . The proportion of students disagree that the cigarette can pollute the environment is nearly twice than students who are agree that (12,8 respectively)

There are some areas the students have the same numbers .The number of students who prefer watering the trees by tubes is similarly, the students who watering the trees by using spray(`10 students). Keeping environment is responsibility everyone and people produce a lot of pollution on the earth by consuming the products.

• Our planet has serious problems which affects on the people and animals• Every one is responsible about problem in the environment and should solve it.• -people should use natural resources like air and wildlife in correct way to benefit new generation in the future.

• The ways to help people from our environment such as waste .in fact, each household in Britain produces about 1tone of rubbish every year. We can use rubbish in good way by recycle• ideas to help our nature from the waste :

A-is sort out your rubbish .

B-use recycled paper to help save trees(Britain uses 6 trees worth of paper each year.

final essay2

1-Define what is meant by ‘national identity’ and discuss how the media may contribute to both the preservation and the destruction of national identity. Give examples from at least three countries that you have read about.

Have you ever been asked by someone “what is your identity”?!. The answer absolutely “yes” and you are very proud because of your national identity. In these days, we hear many people say “we have to keep our identity” or “developing our identity is developing our country”. However, we have never asked ourselves why do we stick to our identity. Unquestionably, identity has been the most significant thing in tribes’ lives either in the past or these days. In addition, there are many things that affects identity positively or negatively such as media that may preserve or destroy the national identity . Thus, the main questions I have to argue in this essay are, what is the meaning of identity and how the media can impact on the identity positively or negatively.

What does identity mean?.In the past, Stalin has five definitions for a nation that can explain something about identity(Stalin, 2006).First of all, he admitted that the nation is a historical group of people who live together, and it is not depend on tribal or racial factors(Stalin, 2006). However, he said that even if there are people came from different groups of people, This doesn’t mean they are a nation because they have to be a stable group of people. Secondly, he also, said the language that is very common could be one of the nation’s features. On the other hand, it could be there two or more nations speak the same language, but they are not considered as one nation. So, there is should be another factor beside the language, and it is the common territory. A nation will not be a nation unless the people have the same territory and live on it generation after generation. The forth definition was about “ economic life” and how it is important. Finally, he added that “psychological make-up” or “national character” is something that we cannot ignore even if it is intangible because it is obvious in the common culture. These five definitions give us more details about what is identity. “It is only when all these characteristics are together that we have a nation”(Stalin, 2006). Finally, I could say that many people believe that when we have these characteristic we’ll have identity, when we have a nation we’ll have national identity.

After giving the definition of identity we should recognize what are the things that affect this identity. As we all know, media has been the main effective and serious factor in our life. There are positive contributions of media for national identity as there are negative contributions. In positive way, the media can save or protect our tradition. In fact, we can keep it by having traditional media. For example, “T.V programs” can protect our tradition by traditional programs such as “nostalgia for a bygone series” – series that show people pre-oil when their lives were hard but they worked together and supported each other–(Holes, 2005) . This kind of series gives us traditional values that make us behave well and endure our hard life as our grandparents did. Moreover, we have “traditional magazines” that also contribute positively to our tradition. The second good contribution of media is protecting our language or traditional dialect. There has been many Gulf musalsalat ( series ) since 1980s(Holes, 2005). The language of those series were in a local dialect such as in Kuwaiti soaps that were imported in Oman in 1980s(Holes, 2005) . This local dialect is the protector of our traditional language. Until now, we still have these musalsalat that speak our traditional language. For instance, “musalsal FREEJ” that launched in September 2006 ( About FREEJ )(Al Mahmoud, 2006). many young and old people like this 3D animation which makes them try to imitate the characters especially young children. By this imitation, people can strengthen their language and this is what we mean by protecting our traditional language. These are some of media’s benefits for our identity.

Essentially, the media can give us many benefits. However, there are many negative contributions of it. This contribution includes both behavior and language. Initially, although we said that we can keep our tradition behavior by media, it can also destroy it. For instance, the big effect of western media on Arab countries. Nowadays, the Arabian people have started to behave like western people with a immense ignorance of their traditional life. They say it is globalization. However, it is not. We can say it is a destruction of identity. Additionally, some bad media leads to having a lot of bad people in the country .For example, increasing the number of smokers in Egypt(Islam SM, Johnson CA., 2007). Also, media can increase the violence among young Canadian children(Public Health Agency of Canada).Secondly, the language also could be damaged by media. For instance, because of the addiction to watch USA or foreign movies including young Emirati people, their language has been changed such as using English words in their own speech like “yes”, “no”, “please” and “thanks”. This means we lose our identity language whereas we have to keep it. Finally, it is very important to keep our behavior and language to save our identity.

In conclusion, national identity is that thing which requires many things to be defined. According to the five nation definitions that stalin put, we could understand something about national identity. Without a historically constituted, stable group of people, common language, territory, economic life and common national character, we will not have a nation and a national identity. At the side of this, there are many influences of media in national identity whether positively or negatively. Positively, it can save our traditional behavior and language. Negatively, it could destroy the identity by rising the bad behavior or spreading foreign language in our culture. In my opinion, identity is something we have to be aware about it, and we must protect it from any danger.

first draft essay

“The benefits associated with the globalization of the food industry far outweigh the detrimental effects”. Discuss this statement with reference to one ‘developed’ and one ‘developing’ country that you have read about.

Globalization is a word that has been used by many people and researchers in different causes such as economy ,culture and politics. There are a lot of definitions have been written to describe this word. In addition, most of these definitions describe globalization as a good system that has changed forever the way people contact each other .According to the (Friedman, 2002).Said, I define globalization as the integration of markets, transportation systems, and communication systems to a degree never witnessed before. That means all these series of factors led to define globalization .In contrast, it is difficult to contain all things can we get from globalization because of the various of products .Many people in all the world can take benefits from it because of the communication between countries even they poor countries or developing countries . Nowadays, it is obvious that , rich country or developed countries can take these benefits of globalization .For example, improve their economy by spreading a big restaurants around the world .Also, they have benefits from their medical businesses .On the other hand, that does not mean poor countries don not have the some of these benefits such as the benefit that they have from communications between countries around all the world.

Actually, rich and developed countries have more benefits of globalization, but there are some advantages that poor countries can have. As we know, we define globalization as a word that describes the disappearance of limitations between countries and being one, help each other, and communicating together for development. By communication, these benefits will be increased by increasing the strength of relationships between countries around the world . This helps poor countries to go forward to reach their aims and goals by the cultural and economical exchanges which was the key rule for this huge development in technology, connection, or society (Kennedy, 2001). An example of this is India which takes advantages from cell phone revolution to support their economy (Tharoor, 2007). Now, we could say that poor countries will have advantages from globalization even if the benefits come from connecting and dealing with rich countries.

Medical systems have a key role in the developing countries. These medical systems include the health-care and medicine businesses. Because of globalization, the profit of medical systems will grow internationally. In other word, Many countries are spending a lot of money for outside health-care. An example of this is the UAE which spends more than 2 billion$ every year for abroad health-care ( Ezz Al Deen, (BBC NEWS - One Minute World News, 2008). That means medical tourism gives a lot of advantages for the country that is developed in medical health-care. Additionally, if we talked about medical systems we have to consider the profit of medical businesses. Clearly , there has been a revolution in selling medicines as a result of the large number of the diseases in these days. Consequently, it has been very easy for the rich countries that have developed medical businesses to take advantages from this revolution and earn a lot of money that will assist in improving these countries.

Nowadays, there is a big spread of some restaurants that belong to massy or developed countries such as McDonalds or KFC. “Internationalization of food” (Scholte, 2000) is a word that describes the spreading of these restaurants as one of globalization’s feather. Developed and rich countries are aware of the big benefits they will have because of globalization. In fact, we are facing a huge change in the habit of traditional food these days.(S. Peters & T. Peters) “the dominance of western fast food” . Globalization is the reason for this change, and because of it many traditional food were influenced by new or western food. For this reason, rich countries which have big restaurants use this change and influence for their profit and to improve their economy. For instant, where ever you go, you can see the famous restaurant “McDonalds” in many countries. Joo Sam Lee from Korea said “ several years ago, I went to Japan. At that time, it wasn’t difficult to find American restaurants there…”. Food businesses can be significant reason for improving countries’ economies.

In conclusion, I would say that spreading things around the world for benefits is one of globalization’s definitions. Many people believe that the benefits of globalization are useful for rich countries only such as the benefits that come from food or medical businesses. In contrast, this is not true, because globalization’s benefits can be helpful for every one even if they are poor or rich because of the interactive communication between countries. In my opinion, we have to try to have a global and developed society by globalization .If all countries work together, they will get benefits from globalization and their country will be improvement.
